The Desire for one-button builds is heavily correlated to the click-intensiveness of PoE in general
I want to add a perspective I haven't seen pointed out like that, yet. There is a lot of talk about meaningful combat and combo based gameplay vs. one button builds.
In my opinion the one button meta is extremely tightly knit to the antique item and loot management of PoE in general. Farming Harbinger in PoE 1 rn made this very obvious for me, having to click on every 1-slot currency in my inventory after every map after I already clicked every lootfiltered shard inside the map adds up in no time. It is not only tiring but damages the hardware, both the fleshy and and the techy one. If GGG wanted to promote a multi-skill game, imo, the best way for them to achieve that is to go all in on general QoL systems related to loot and inventory management so they can free up headroom for the players to click where it really matters: in combat. As long as GGG fights against the tides of time in that regard I believe the sentiment will remain towards one button builds, not just for speed and efficiency but just because of pain avoidance. ขุดครั้งสุดท้าย เมื่อ 14 ก.ค. 2025 15:07:21

I completely agree with this.

That's a good point, but this game is full of other concepts that contradict themselves.
If I have to be honest, a lot of people are using scripts for everything what is annoying. There is API which is free and updated and everyone can use that, and based on downloads it's shit ton of people. At the end only the people who play fair get hit the hardest. On Probation Any%

Even one button builds can get high actions per minute, if the build works. The only difference is that with one button builds you actually get something for that button.

I have a build that uses 3 different Unarmed Strikes to Mark for Crit, Heavy Stun/Armour Break, and finally finish off - all for the purpose of maintaining Charge Infusion & Scavenged Plating. I'll not lie: its a shitbrew but I find it fun. It would be more satisfying if the "combo" system better rewarded builds that elect multiple manual skill inputs per target.
