Build diversity

Some people tend to complain about the lack of build diversity in POE2.
And even with more weapons being added later on, this feeling may persist.

One major reason for this is the layout of the skill tree:
Weapon-specific bonuses are usually found only on one side of the tree,
making it illogical to pursue a build with that weapon type if your character starts on the opposite side.

That’s why I’d like to suggest adding "bridges" to the tree — similar to how bridges work in the POE1 Atlas tree.

There are many possible ways to implement this, some more balanced than others.
One promising option would be a kind of "double spec" system:
not by adding extra ascendancy nodes, but by allowing the player to choose,
from a bridge node located on their starting edge of the tree,
which equivalent node from the other "side" they’d like to gain access to.

A system like this could significantly improve build diversity,
without breaking balance — especially if limited to one bridge or link per character.

Strange, how come I'm using a normal spear with Rake and I'm running t15 maps with no problems, even a lich with ED has no problems. Seems like we're playing different games here.

I did not say I have problems. I believe spear should be nerfed to the ground like the rest of the weapons/skills in the game.

You must be doin something wrong if you can´t get a OP build WITHOUT a spear.

I have a 93 Monk, 95 Amazon, and a 92 Mercenary builds without a spear clearing t4 bosses and sims with ease.
And there a plenty of other srceen clearing builds that DO NOT use a spear, so WHY should it be nerfed?

"No diversity" is just utterly false.
Actually, I think there is great build diversity and possibilities for creativity. It is only the community that lacks imagination and don't want to experiment.

Granted, you have to know a little bit about the systems of the game in order to experiment. There is a learning curve.

Take for expmple OP's concerns. He's concerned that there are no weapon specific nodes in certain areas of the tree, which is correct, but what rule is there that says that you have to take weapon specific nodes?

Certain skills for example convert a majority of the damage to an element. If you take an elemental node for the element that you are focusing on, that works just as well. Or attack nodes may be located where weapon specific nodes are not located.

I've tried a monk spear build in the mage area using fangs of frost with cold damage nodes, it works well. No spear nodes needed.

The weapon specific nodes are not so over the top that you have to path to them.

I have a Mercenary spear build focusing on bleed and he doesn't take the spear nodes because I would have to make sacrifices to reach there, there are better options on the tree.

I think this game has much more build diversity potential than PoE1 because you can make the stat nodes any stat you want. Just because you are in a certain area of the tree or start as a certain character doesn't mean you have to take stats stereotypically related to the character. For example I am doing a monk build that uses str and a mace. This is possible only because I don't have to be forced to pick dex and int, I can pick str and int if I want to.

Most mace skills are fire damage, you can pick fire nodes, or if you want, you can convert the damage to cold using items and you can pick cold nodes. There is potential, you just have to be creative.

but is the all thing in game dps?. seriously, hunter is very bad...

the toon evade nothing, dodge nothing, take eons to kill boss. in fact, both dps and toughness on hunter are bad, and what ever you do, it will be bad.

I'm dying only if I don't pay attention and dodge pretty much many attacks with 70% EV. Bosses are not there to be one-shot.
