Is there no hope for life/armour builds?

I'm running a 300 div build with 5.2k life, 35k armour and ~120% armour applies to ele damage. I have ~12000 hp/sec recovery from time of need and also I'm crit immune from brass dome.
Yet something like the pillars of light from Geonor in iron citadel (blue map with no damage modifier) 1 shots me through all those defences. GGG you still don't see the absurdity in that? This problem is plaguing the game since the very beginning, and nothing has been done to fix this. aim for 60k armor. 35k is to low. do research on how armor actually works

Sitting in a similar boat, especially with elemental mitigation I had higher hopes. Because very high elemental armour and (slightly) overcapped elemental resistances must be good right? But here come the bummer. Armour is only good if you have about 10x more than the damage you wanne mitigate. And I am pretty sure that elemental armour is checked BEFORE elemental resistances. So for very big hits elemental armour has very little to add on top of elemental resistances. An easy workaround would be if restances would apply FIRST and then armour, that would make a HIUGE difference, because armour would be rolled against 75% less elemental damage and do a much better job in mitigation...
I also think in POE2 they should fundamentally overthink armour, because it is one of the most non-intuitve defensive stats, that was never good to start with even in POE1 IGN: “_THE__ROCK_”: level 92 melee ranger >>>> Tougher than any Marauder, no silly walk or spinal injury and has pants <<<< Other currently retired toons level 83-85 fitting the description above… แก้ไขล่าสุดโดย Conan_xxx#1131 เมื่อ 4 ม.ค. 2026 13:03:10

I tried out Kripps Titan Infernalist build and it was OK.

" Depends what content you running. I can stand in the middle of a pack in 6 mod T16 and take no damage. But some of the boss 1 shots just do too much raw damage to be able to tank without 12-15k ES pool. I do understand how armour works against big hits vs small hits, that's why we need to be able to get a bigger life pool. To get that much ES is 3-4 pieces of gear and 15-20 passives on the tree. To get that much life/armour and still do damage you need a crazy amount of investment. |

The Great Genius GGG made the Life affix extremely difficult to obtain in PoE2, while shields were extremely easy to stack. This resulted in a huge gap of Life builds and Shield builds.

armor just not good at high hit,that's how armor work.
want change it? mix with shield or stack it to max in 0.3,88000 armor take everything,it should be easy to hit in 0.4 |
