Invoker Ice Strike. "...and protect me from harm" is it worth it?

I wanted to ask the community what they think, is the ascendancy point "and protect me from harm" worth it, I keep hearing about how armor is broken and does not work, and that is basically worth nothing.

Does the armor this node gives you compensate the 40% evasion you loose when using it?
