Ballista Totems not counting as "Allies"?

Ballista Totems should count as allies, per definition of the tag "Totems".

When using the Fixation of Yix unique amulet, the stats of a placed Ballista Totem do not change. I am in range of the 2m presence, the Totem is placed. No increased crit chance, no increased attack speed.

I have recorded different footages of attacks to compare the actual attack speed. Results are identical, so the stats do not work.

The tooltip does however change when slotting in Martial Tempo.

Happy to provide the video footages if needed.

I've seen this kind of confusion a lot so hopefully this is clear. For context, I have been a totem player for almost as long as I've played PoE1, so I am quite familiar with their mechanics.

Totems only benefit from 2 types of buffs: Things that affect YOU and things that affect totems specifically. That's it. Because they are an ally without their own offensive stats (they borrow yours), they do not benefit from things that buff offensive stats.

So to be clear, yes they count as an ally. But it's one that cannot receive ally buffs.

Thanks for your response. In PoE1 I'd never even assumed this should work, but in PoE2 the tags explicitly call them out as "allied constructs" with the tag.

If what you're saying is their intention, these tooltips are more than just misleading, they're simply wrong. Given the current set of items, there is just one unique with a totem specific affix (Soul Mantle) and none for ballistas specifically. With this in mind I'd say counting them as allies would make sense. See below for reference:

They do count as allies. But they use your stats for their skills, so your buff to allies doesn't increase the ballista's attack speed/crit--because it isn't increasing your stats.

What you're asking for would be the ballistas entirely having their own stats instead of only having their own weapon. That would mean that you wouldn't be scaling your ballistas by increasing your own damage, crit, attack speed, etc.

Following that logic, my ballista's attack speed should change if my weapon has higher attack speed, since it is using my stats. It doesn't do that either though. Comparison below:

Now, my initial post mentioned a specific unique amulet that should increase your allies' attack speed etc. If that counts only for minions with their own stats, fair enough, fix the tooltip to clarify totems/ballistas as exceptions. But then at least give some information about how to improve the ballista outside of explicit passive nodes on the tree.

This is the amulet in question for reference sake:

No because your weapon's attack speed is a local mod. That means only things that directly use that weapon will benefit from it. As the ballista has its own weapon, this is not the case.

Okay fair enough. What is the purpose of this ascendancy node for Tactician then? Ballista totems play a huge role in Tactician's theme/archetype.

If this is not intended to work with ballistas at all, the only other "basic" skill for this would be the other ascendancy node granting "Supporting Fire" which is labeled as minion, but has 40 sec cooldown and is not connected to the node above. GGG connects nodes that directly tie into each other normally, those are separate.
2 more examples of passive nodes that are directly located in the Merc section.

Mass Hysteria is exactly the same type of mod that the unique amulet has.

Guess what? Those allies that allegedly wait in ambush for your command are not real. Auras or similar things that require a physical presence to be applied can't affect them.

I see you like posting images, here's mine!
