Summarize of Crossbow ISSUES before the upcoming patch 0.3.0.
After 1200 hours of Crossbow use i want to give my feedback and summarize the issues encountered during this awesome but also painful period of specific play style.
1) Switching and Dodge Roll are both actions that preventing Reload time being work as it should for a proper game experience. So during this time is unable to reload weapon by adding more delay time until next attack, which makes the game unplayable, unfun and lowers survibility. Most of times an unexpected death comes from those 2 sec (1+1) delay. This bad implementation should get high priority to be fixed. If Caltrop skill works fine with dodging, why not Reloading? 2) I know this sounds normal to you but there is two huge unfair decisions taken by Devs in the beginning of creation of PoE2 and continue until today. This is about the way that some of two handed weapons don't get the respect it needs as do others. Yes I'm talking about Bow of-hand gear that excluded from Xbows and Reload time that punishing only the second one. This unfair choice should be considered as an insult to a fair rule game. Please 🙏 make a second thought and change it before the end of year. Follows funny dialogue between Bow and Xbox player during Boss fight....🤣🤣🤣 XBow pl: Hold on bro, I'm out of bolds. I need to reload weapon...hm? WTF 😲, where is my sack? I can't find it to reload the bolds. Bow pl: Reloading??? Are you kidding me, right? I'm already finished the Boss bro. Next time take my quiver for your bolds. I don't need it anyway. My arrows are unlimited even with no quiver in my back..😏 3) During demanding fights i noticed a lot of times my Crossbow jamm, forcing me to press one more time the click button for start firing again. These stucks or whatever prevents the weapon of continuously firing, leads sometimes to deaths. People mentioned hovering mouse over objects or NPCs is the main reason of the issue. Whatever it is should be fixed couse making the weapon unplayable. 4) A lot of bugs are remaining to be fixed related with gems that support Crossbow skills and mentioned already in forums. Bringing new content with no fixing remaining issues will bring chaos in later patches. If Voltaic charges gem works fine with dodging why Momentum gem doesn't work? Isn't the traveled space with dodging counted as a space for both of them? 5) Let's talk about Crossbow skills. Did you test skills during battle with a full team party before releasing them? Most of them are awfully designed especially those that use DMG and not DPS. Nonexistent damage compared to other class weapons and the most horribly of all, the fire speed rate. 90% of Xbow players use Galvanic shards. Random? I don't think so! There is a reason why and this reveals damage and speed weakness. Spear and Bow weapons fire 3X faster while making 2X more damage and that's why are most preferred weapons. I wanna see Fragmentation of rounds and Permafrost skills firing 2 bolds ( in row or in a reduced firing angle ) instead of 6. I wanna see Crossbow skills doing 30k DPS like Spears and other weapons do. WHY I'm always ended up using simple Crossbow shot skill in bosses??? Just.. pathetic 😞 but lifesaver sometimes. Anyway if Crossbow Shot had 3X speed like as Bows skills would be awesome. Also why Crossbow shot doesn't consume mana as others Crossbow skills do? Enlighten me please... 6) Some weapons have special ability skills on them. I don't see the reason why all weapons didn't get the same treatment from the beginning of the game. It's not only fun but most time lifesaver when you are out of skills during fight. It will bring also a lot of people in game. 7) In Crossbow weapon compared to others, there are a lot of things to be invested and for this reason all passive nodes (related to weapon amendments and increases) in P.tree should be buffed at least with 20% increased value. Adding Reload time, grenades, etc brings more subcategories (that other weapons don't have to worry on) and should be mandatory invested to function as a perfect and unique combination in the Crossbow playing result. Overall Crossbow isn't a bad weapon at endgame map fights but in Bosses lacking a lot compared to others. I think Herald skills are making the obvious difference. -Autoswitch to basic bolt:
upgrade a skill gem level or quality or whenever you die makes the xbow switch to basic bolt. it's a pain in the butt when you respawn at checkpoints and you have to switch ammo again (it takes a while to switch amo and shoot). -2X mana cost on empty clips: empty a random clip of your choice and switch to another ammo. When you switch back to the empty clip it consumes mana (fails to reload) then consume mana again on reloading (Mana pool isnt that big for xbow users but the most embarassing thing is the time the whole process takes. -Skills have different reload time: dont know why but you can easily test this with glacial bolt and siege cascade to see the gap between the two. nice thread, would be great to keep the first post updated with bugs that will get eventually added by other users to make things easier for the team, JUST in case they decide to have a look a that weapon, sooner or later. |

" +1000. This is good summarize post. DODGE roll makes the game hard if rules don't apply as other gems and skills. We discussed in earlier posts that should get priority. It's nor difficult to change the code so that Reloading could work fine with dodging. Past 4 months and still tolerate this bad implementation. Off hand gear should be added to Crossbow weapon otherwise we play with unfair rules. Every two handed weapon deserves an off hand gear. Don't forget that Crossbow is the only weapon that punished with extra delay attack time. So what's the point to punishing more and more. The skills are awful. Spears and Bows firing 3x faster without even spending ton of passives to accomplish that result. Maybe Devs have a lot to do until patch 0.3.0 but at least these issues should be fixed until Christmas. |

LoL. Well the funny dialogue reveals all the unfair rule system about weapons. So that's why we asking balance becouse damage and firing rate dissapoints a lot of people when the conversation goes to ' Why some players vanishing whole screen with on click' while other weapons and skills literally caress the monsters during fights.
+1 to the off-hand gear. It should have been implemented to Crossbows from the beginning of game but never is too late for Devs to bring justice again. I know the issues are a lot for solving all problems until 0.3.0 patch but with a good plan these issues can be managed well until Christmas. |

Reminder that Crossbows had off-hand gear during the initial Mercenary class reveal.
I don't remember if it had stats, but it was used to swap crossbow skills between, normal, rapid shot, shotgun and grenade mode. Really miss that feature. |

Fellow crossbow user - the only point I can get behind here is the "jamming", when you reload/switch ammunition and your cursor is over top of loot/pot/npc/door etc. when you try to shoot and your character just does nothing until you try to shoot again. That is very annoying.
But fire rate? Damage??? BOSSING???? This complaint makes me question what you have been doing for 1200hrs... The crossbow skills do incredible damage and you get get the firing rate SO FAST for the skills where that matters - and then happening upon an acceleration shrine is so powerful it feels like cheating, especially paired with any damage shrine. The reload times for all skills are trivial with a passive tree that makes sense - and for the skills with a longer reload, there's a support gem for that. I have not had a single t15 waystone bossfight last more than 20-30 seconds, with most of them being over in 5-10 seconds. Iron Citadel Geonor get's instantly phased. For context, this is done on a level 93 SSF Witchhunter using armour piercing rounds, high velocity rounds, explosive shot, cluster, explosive, oil nades. Made it to 87 in HCSSF and died to hungry fangs + the fusillade mob in the t4 Sekhema trial (rip). Continued playing in sc just to push the character and see what I can throw at it before it rips - I tear through juiced t15 maps quite easily and my gear is nothing special. All pinnacle bosses down (don't have them to t4 yet but getting there and my gear is what most trade-leaguers would likely leave on the ground). " You didn't understand my point. Of course skills are powerful when playing alone bosses especially if you use Deepest tower build. The problem is when partying you are realise the difference compared to other weapons and skills of the teammates. Yesterday i played 3 hours with a guy that killed boss in full party in about 2-3 sec alone. We were fighting in breach Xsest4 and stayed outside the boss becouse he wanted to test his skills. Imagine a guy killing in 3sec the Xcest4 boss life that is 5x stronger. What kind of builds is this with two axes i don't know? I reached 1200 hours and tried every combination about builds related to Crossbow. Never felt so strong and attack speedy as other classes and i have an excellent build for level 96. I handle well 80-90% of bosses but never killed a boss in less than 20 sec unless i played in no corrupted maps. Normally i need 45-160 sec to beat a strong boss alone. But seeing in a full party this guy killing with no mercy ( almost one click clearing boss)... No no bro im not f.... stupid, there is absolutely no balance between classes, skills, weapons etc. And if Devs think there is diversity in builds, i will tell them to check the analysis again of every class. In crossbow use 70-80% playing Deepest tower build and the funny point is that even with 500% increased damage, this build can't beat other classes builds 10 levels lower. So nerfing other classes isn't always the right choice but playing with broken builds or balance issues isn't Endgame at all. | |
I will admit it that time until 0.3.0 patch is limited to be handled all those issues from Devs until 29 August but i want them to show us a plan for next patch 0.4.0 even if it is to early for spoilers. We waited a lot enough and some issues like dodging and reloading functionality shouldn't last so long to be fixed.
From the other hand off gear items for Crossbow is an implementation that needs a lot work and carefully design. It seems like bringing new sword item in game and its not first priority for now. Anyway it's a good summarize and helpful for Devs understanding the situation of Crossbow ISSUES. |

" It would take the same amount of work that quivers took for bow, it's so clear that something is missing there. It looks like a half done job due to hurry on releasing early access. It will eventually have some rework but probalby it is not on top of the list. |
