A big thank you for making map layouts more fun! ðŸŦĄ

I haven’t seen much (or any really) mention of the map layouts, which were largely criticized in the past for being way too big, complicated and belaboured to run. The first thing I noticed when completing the campaign in 0.3 was how much nicer the maps were to run. By a large margin! It was palpable! I was having fun again and not groaning at the exhaustive 122 room floor in had to traverse.

A big thank you to GGG for loosening up the purse strings!

I understand the premise this game is built on (I.e., always a mix of high and low tier, everything) but using map layouts to gate players really took a massive chunk of fun out of the game given players spend 99% of their time in them!

By making the map layouts more fun, GGG resolved a massive pain point!

Building off this, I would love to see maps have more unique features about them, letting players interact with them more and more, in meaningful ways. Fun little side quests that further boost immersion. Such as being given a mission from a wandering traveller at the start of the map or even having cases where you fend off waves of monsters as they come to you. Strictly from an immersive perspective, I’d also love more areas of interaction (like being able to climb ropes or slide over large canyons, mini events that really bring world building).

Right now, the game feels on another level compared to 0.2 in how engaging it is. The sprint feature does a ton of heavy lifting too! But in general it’s feeling less and less stale and one dimensional and becoming far more immersive, bringing about a lot more tactical gameplay!

It was by no means a small change IMO, so thought I’d give the team some kudos on the move! It made a world of difference ðŸŦĄ
