There's an option to have the game automatically pause when a controller disconnects. At least, there used to be. In fact it used to log you out automatically when you tried to swap controllers.

You should check that's enabled.

That aside, it is a bit harsh that it is introducing a new mechanic but you only get one shot at it. If you're new to it I can see why it might be very easy to explode some bad spots and screw yourself.

Don't you get to keep map mechanics after dying now? I'm assuming so from the warning when you go to fight a boss on Maps. Or is that only the ones you haven't triggered yet?

1. Campaign bonus content is extremely lackluster. Trust me when I say that you won't have lost much of anything.

2. Your controller dying sounds like a "you" problem, not the game. Either pay more attention to keeping it charged, or get a wired controller so that never happens. In case your controller stops working and had nothing to do with power, there are options in the game that would've let you pause the game in the event it becomes unresponsive. I don't use controller, but if it isn't on by default, that seems like a weird oversight by GGG.
