Do maps have a timer or are they open until they are either: completed, failed, or you open a different one?
I had something and come up and I didn't want my juiced map I was clearing and had no idea if maps had timers are something so I just left my game up and AFK'ed inside the map to not lose it.

Don't quote me on this, but if it's like POE 1 it's 8 minutes.

That's terrible? I mean sometimes shit happens and you gotta AFK, why even have a timer on it? What's the point of it from a game design perspective, to screw people over for no reason? I am so tired of "developers" designing mechanics that are simply there to screw with you and waste your time for no good reason.
(I'm not bitching at you btw of course, that's just a moronic decision on GGG's part)

Well, POE 2 has a pause. Just hit escape and do your thing.

Yeah but I don't want to leave my game running the whole time if it's not necessary since my PC is a bit mid and runs hot while playing, even if I alt/tab, Win+D and lock it, it's still using background resources to keep it going.
I just don't see the logic in it. Punishing mechanics usually have a purpose from a game design perspective and can create decisions like with Waystones. Do you want to push another mod for 6 and have no revives? Or play it safe and keep 5 just in case. What does putting a timer on a map do, nothing. It costs them bandwidth and memory to keep me logged in paused on a map until I can come back. Or it can just cost them a little bit of memory and no bandwidth to keep the map open while I'm logged off. It just doesn't make sense.

It's not a timer on a map; it's a timer on your (disconnected) session to a server. It has nothing to do with "punishing mechanics." How long are you saying you'd need to leave the game open while you're away? The computer can "run hot" forever. There's only an issue if it actually overheats.

Average 11 minutes, if your build is good enough, 5-6 minutes.

Tell me you know nothing of hardware wear and tear without telling me.
