Future for PvP best idea so far I’ve had

First step: forget the balance for now. But damage balance could be achieved by setting area maximum damage that is significantly lower but scales with active damage number outside PvP. So each skill has whatever damage cap and that skill will have a seperate PvP damage cap

Second step: System to create gear Inventory flag as *Protected item* or something like this. Each player can apply this tag to X inventory gear slots. In PvP on death all non Protected item flagged items will be dropped on death unless *special PvP content.*

Reasoning: this gives PvP a sorta high risk high reward situation where if something is super meta it’ll be worthwhile to find a way to crack how to defeat it. Game has a lot of room for wonky things that could work in the right setting

Other PvP modes like capture the flag and such wouldn’t need the drop items on death thing unless like people start playing hardcore capture the flag which if so LIT

But in reality this is the best thing I can see for how PvP could function. The reward tied to the items people lose on death, you have too many worthless items you gonna get scrubbed.

You have too many expensive gear inventory items and you are a bounty to be hunted.

Players driving player engagement.

If one or any build super overperforms you can adjust its max damage ratio for the *pvp flagged area zones*

Anything that draws outside those lines hopefully won’t exist outside of EA standard.

PvP is a life blood of AARPG and how it works and the lore you put behind why it’s there is super important.

If it has good lore and the reward is worth or just the engagement is fun, people will enjoy. PvP with player dropped items should be a big map with monsters and multiple enemy players on map. A big enough map that most of the time it’s 1v1 maybe turns into 1v1v1 occasionally and randomly turns into a circus. But as players die you can have a like Fog roll in that does more and more damage :,). Funneling players to whoever drew first blood. Or whoever killed who had first blood buff I just made up.

Anyway I think I’ve thought enough and hopefully a dev who cares about this topic reads this, cheers

P.S. if you feel cringe because it’s the fog thing and the PvP in general description I gave are different elements of the best parts of different games? So what isn’t that the idea of making a game?
No one owns the fog, no one owns capture the flag, etc

P.S.S. Good buff for *first blood* tracking is +1% chaos res.
flavorful and makes sense

Thank you for coming to the ted talk

Feel free to + or - the idea and what you’d add or change. The more traction we can get on this topic in the long run the easier it will be to see fulfilled someday.

Even if you don’t like my idea, share yours on how you think PvP should work. Not here to debate just here to see what other people think

I don't know what world you've living in, but on this here planet Earth the best description I can think of for PvP in aprgs is that it's just not a thing.
That the majority of games in the genre never bother to add anything pvp, and the few that do, only add it as a joke until it closes down because nobody played it.

Arpgs are basically an epitome of "pve only" genres.
When D4 released I very quickly got bored of the game but got very interested in PVP. There was a relatively small group of committed PVPers, but the problem was the community was small compared to the general player base. So in D4, PVP never got any patches or attention from the devs and over time the community thinned out more and more.

I think if GGG dedicated resources to PVP in this it would have to be a passion project because even though PVP is fun, there just isn't the player count to back it up.

People said EA standard would be a ghost town, has 40,000 + players bruh. Giving people more things to do is only bad if the thing you give them sucks. I don’t want to debate but the whole “player count for PvP is low” thing only applies when the PvP is poorly designed. AND even when it’s poorly designed sometimes it still carries the game for years.

PvP in an AARPG is end game content. Even if it’s at level 15 vs level 15. That’s what’s fun about it. The rules for PvP are only limited by what can be implemented.

I mean if they did it I would play it. End game content for sure, would be fun
Just what we need, taking away resources from not only poe2 but poe1 as well for this garbage. No.

Shhhh shhhhh shhh it’s ok. PvP isn’t going to hurt you if you choose not to participate. Shhhhhh there there.
I love PVP, but I can't name a single ARPG with good PVP. D2's PVP wasn't good, it's just all we had at the time in terms of content for the game...

If y'all know any, please share?
I got the sauce.

POE1 & 2 enjoyer.
oh gee, steps and protected items, sorry OP not in a shape to go through that but just wait a second.. someone hold my beverage i be back with a thread... it will have black jack and hookers, i promise

And this is The real problem. People like this.

Why even make poe2 it’s gonna take resources away from poe1. Why even improve poe2 beta conditions, you could release rn and its better quality than d4, you are taking away resources from poe1 for no reason. Why update poe1 at all, you are taking away resources from poe2, why update poe1 or poe2 you are taking away resources from poe3, why talk about poe3 you are talking away resources from poe1 and poe2. Why do people think statements like this are evidence of anything? Like are people really that dumb?
