Blood mage gore spike do not work with spells

Blood Mage Ascendancy: Gore Spike does not improve critical damage bonus.
My critical damage bonus does not improve when I take this Ascendancy.
I'm using Reap as my weapon and spell of choice , but the same thing can be seen on Unearth (checking tooltip critical bonus).
