Hey, would you recommend this as a good first build for the new league? I started recently replaying, played a bit in PSC after stopping after closed beta. I played RF Totems and LA so looking for something a bit different.

It depends on what is considered "better".

Occultist provides slightly more damage when compared to Trickster, thanks to Void Beacon.

Trickster provides better mana, ES, regen, attack / cast speed, and survivability because the overall defenses are superior thanks to Ghost Dance and Shade Form.

Occultists provides a slightly better dmg output, but trickster brings you to over 250mil exp/h which the Occultists does not.

1. Survivability: with a good gameplay you die almost never. So your experience gaining rate is stable.

2. Movement speed and attack speed: faster whirling blades is a strong clearspeed booster. And Trickster has insane attack speed when compared to other classes (20% from Walk the Aether, 20% on proc from Shade Form and 16% from little ascendancy nodes).

3. Free cast speed: another clearspeed booster.

4. Mana management: a lot easier than any other ED ascendancy choice in the game (the only exception being the EB / MOM Ascendant, which has been nerfed in 2.3 btw cause of deadeye pierce chance reduction).
