XP loss leads to player count loss.

There's a reason build guides stop at 93 or 94. You can beat the entire game at that level. Your post reads as though you are focused on a number, instead of on clearing content. If you can't beat a boss at level 93, you won't be able to beat it with 7 more passive points.

The way to beat hard content is to layer defenses and scale damage. It's hard to do right now, with so few skills and items in the game. Six months from now it will be much easier to create an offbeat build that can clear a lot of content.

So - you're right that things are frustrating right now. But you're wrong about the reason.
I think it's a combination of things of frustration - xp is just 1 of them from the month long feedback on forums. Whether people agree or not these are repeated topics.

1) 1 map loss
2) disconnect/lag and breach loss
3) armor stanks
4) mainly aoe mash builds
5) no build diversity
6) game starts off slow as elden ring then becomes vampire survivor
7) on death effects
8) multiplayer scaling
9) ascendency behind rng mechanics
10) crafting bad
11) trade on a website, waiting on players to respond
12) gold/bot spam in chats + whispers
13) loot upgrade almost non existant
14) uniques are still meh
15) body blocking, mob speed vs player speed
16) class imbalances
17) end game mainly kill monster before they kill you
18) some maps just badly laid out (i.e. augury, or that forest one with too many trees/rocks that block things)

I think that's a phenomenal summary, and it's a shame it will be buried in this thread. Please consider making it more prominent in some way.

i wouldn't mind heavy exp loss if the endgame was really fun outside of "number go up," cuz with exp loss number go down.

completing sections of the campaign feel great.
completing T15 maps forever is a boring chore, and then also PUNISHING. I get punished enough by the IRS i wanna play an poe to have a good time.
So what should the penalty be then? Because if death has no penalty it also has no meaning.
Theres xp loss? Damn. Hard to tell when you make your build good. Lvl 97 and a 96. Games pretty easy. Making 15 to 25 divs a night. Never dying. Sounds like a build issue. Do some research.

As the end game is now, maybe they should

Lower the exp loss penalty so that players don't stagnate before exploring all the end game systems.
or
Remove Exp Gain from the Map once you die. If you die you can complete the map and get items and drops but no more exp.
or
Just make the end game much better and the only fun won't be reliant on the level going up.

I'm really excited for poe2, I just hope GGG gets this stuff right; it's worrisome rn I'm thinking about playing minecraft instead of the hottest new arpg.

Chars will not get deleted. Chars will remain in EA server. When game will be full released, everyone will start fresh in Season/League server
