No loot dropping on couch co-op

I was playing couch co op on the PS5 with my brother and created a new character. We got all the way through clearfell and the mud burrow, beat a boss and a mini boss, and in the entire time nothing ever dropped other than gold. So the entire time my new character could only punch because we couldn’t find a single piece of gear.
