Tiers are still ass backwards.

Better idea. Just rename affixes from "tier" to "rank". Personally, "rank 1 = best" is more natural to me than "tier 1 = best" (though I don't see much use of tier in the real world compared to rank like rank 1 player or rank 1 team).

Regardless of whatever previous precedent we can point to (PoE1), this game currently has two systems using the word "tier": waystones and affixes. Higher tier waystone = better (generally) and lower tier affix = better which are directly contradictory. Just use a different name and it shouldn't be an issue that their order is reversed.

GGG specifically mentioned regarding affix tiering that they made affix match waystone "higher = better" logic so it would not cause confusion. Logically, using the same word to describe two different tiering systems would cause confusion (why is one "higher = better" and the other "lower = better"). Just use a different word and be done with it. People should naturally be able to separate the two systems when you have waystone "tiers" and affix "ranks".

yeah i would be fine with that.

seems like a bit of an insult to everyones intelligence that ggg thinks we cant tell the difference after so many years of the way poe1 works, but, naming it something else makes infinitely more sense than the nonsense we have right now.

nah they just are fucking with all their poe1 players making them rewire their brains for no reason at all.
The current tiering system makes absolutely zero sense and GGG know it. For some reason, they are stuck in their beliefs that it's better than poe1's.

If I see T1 I know exactly that it's the highest mod possible. If I see T8 that tells me absolutely NOTHING, because I have no clue what are the mod ranges.

Like, COME ON.
Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.
I sure hope it's a leftover form early development and they gonna fix it eventually.
But I'm afraid it's a part of the "friction" philosophy and was made with the sole purpose of making players stumble over it.
The way campaign should be played by your second and any subsequent characters: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3772827

Tier 1 should be best for affixes.

If you want the gear that drops have information that it can have better stats (currently also it's called "item tier X" - for less clarity) you can change it in many ways. For example:

From Best to Worst
A Grade
B Grade
....
No Grade - The regular drops

Or if you have to make it also tiers
From Best to Worst:
1 Tier
2 Tier
....
No Tier - The regular drops
Yep, T1 should be best, i'm a nerd with hundreds of hours in the game and even i don't intend to learn which type of affix goes up to which tier, it's annoying

"oh look, tier 9 affix, wait - how high can this affix roll again?"

I actually during 3 acts which i played did not notice any tier indicator at all.... So it is there? I had at first even problem to notice it does says suffix and prefix - it is very badly visible when holding alt. I also did not see separation of mods at all - i was not sure if that is one mod with two lines of text or two mods with one line of text for each. And i was thinking how stupid this is. So was i just blind? I have to check it out. And ofc T1 should be the best, nothing else makes sense. I would love to hear reasoning behind inverting it.

Exactly.
It's a convoluted change in poe2 that added nothing positive. Had the exact opposite effect.
