What should make this game amazing isn't working
I wanna give my 2 cents on this update.
I used to recommend this game to my friends by saying that they could build anything they wanted, thanks to the immense passive skill tree, which should be the awesome part of the game. But now, if you try to create a build in a way that you think is good, or that you think would be fun to play, a casual player couldn't even finish the campaign. In my point of view, the campaign should be where the player tests their build. They should be able to finish it even with a not-so-good one, so that, in the endgame, they realize that if they don’t use more strategy in building their character, they won’t be able to advance as the game gets progressively harder. All those nerfs to builds and all those buffs to monsters and bosses in the campaign were for whom? Certainly not for casual players. It has become frustrating to create a new character, and it has become incredibly hard for a new player to just casually play this game. If someone is trying this game for the first time and doesn’t follow any of the “leveling” builds available online, they might just stop playing before reaching the endgame content. And the worst part, for me, right now, is that all the possibilities you have with the skill tree are condensed into just a few that "work". Want to try playing with the awesome concept of the Acolyte of Chayula? Or maybe use three rings as the Ritualist—that must be cool, right? Well, good luck with that, pal. They say they want some unique items to be good for certain builds, but is that really the case? They eliminated one build because it was too strong, by nerfing all the equipment for stat stackers. A unique, low leve, quarterstaff that used to be very helpful in the early game is now completely useless. Any rare item is better than the Pillar—why does it even exist?! It’s not "balanced" if it’s useless. I know it’s only version 0.2, but man, talk about a massive downgrade in the campaign! In version 0.1, I created a lot of new characters because the campaign was the best part for me. But now, whenever I want to try a new build, I search for it online first. If I can’t find it, I know it would be useless, and I wouldn’t even be able to finish the game on Normal difficulty. I still trust in GGG, but I don’t know, man. I just wish I was one of those big streamers whose opinions could actually make a difference—someone the devs would listen to and take into consideration. I'd say, that even low-level mapping should "forgive" players for using non-meta stuff. Test things, have fun. But yeah, that is funny that without meta or semi-meta build you wouldn't even end the campaign. This is the reality of PoE2. This is not about complexity or challenge, this is about garbage game design. And it's hard to understand how such mature guys like GGG did that.
