The gem works , the problem in your video is that by equipping it you fall short of spirit so the companion goes away.
Don't forget the gem adds a whooping 130% to the costs and adds a flat +10 on top, it's a huuuge ( which makes the gem not worth it ) cost increase, try disabling the rest of your spirit consumming skills/minions and try again you'll see it works, at least for me it does. Hope that helps ! |

Definitely had this working on my quadrilla while I was using a companion.
Spirit cost rough but fun having a bigguy. |
