Riddle Lockbox - New Variant of Strongbox

I wanted to propose a new variant of the Strongbox that is only encountered during the campaign (don't want to slow down endgame). As Strongboxes are locked chests that unleashes monsters to get items within, the "Riddle Lockbox" is a locked chest that has a riddle engraved on a metal plate. Riddle Lockboxes comes with increasing rarity (normal, magic, rare), but also increases riddle difficulty.

Underneath the riddle are sliding tumblers. The player clicks on each tumbler to cycle through different letters, one of which is part of the solution. Once the riddle is solved, the chest opens and you can access its contents.

Each new league will have all new riddles to discover! Below are a few examples...

Riddle Lockbox (Normal):
Number of Tumblers: 4
Answer: Ring
Riddle:
"A precious gift this is,
Yet it has no beginning or end,
And nothing in the middle."


Riddle Lockbox (Magic):
Number of Tumblers: 6
Answer: Shadow
Riddle:
"Silently he stalks me,
Running as I run,
Dressed in black,
He disappears at night,
Only to return with the sun."


Riddle Lockbox (Magic):
Number of Tumblers: 6
Answer: Coffin
Riddle:
"The one who made it, didn't want it,
The one who bought it, didn't need it,
The one who used it, never saw it."


Riddle Lockbox (Rare):
Number of Tumblers: 8
Answer: Sunshine
Riddle:
"Never resting never still,
Moving silently hill to hill,
It does not walk run or trot,
All is cool where it's not."

I love the concept and your riddles are very well-written, but I doubt our " new modern player base " will appreciate it.

AKA : " I want to zoom zoom with my LS, I want more loot – I don't care about riddles, it'll just slow me down "

Agree, that's why they will only be encountered during campaign. I think its a nice compromise for people that enjoy a more slow and methodical playthrough. Not everything needs to be zoom zoom.

Thanks. The problem with modern arpg's is the "a" is much greater than "r." We have enough action, we need more roleplay elements. I consider riddles a roleplay element.
