What's the point of recombinator?
As a concept recomb is good, a promising tool to fill gaps in your gear.
But it indeed requires some tuning, chances-costs wise. As OP said, there's no point to aim for mediocre stats on recomb, you already got mediocre gear by the time you farmed materials for recomb. Now you want something better, and miniscule chances don't help with that. Then again, devs probably don't want to fill game with perfect items like it was with PoE 1 Necropolis gravecrafting. Maybe allow Recombined items to be good, but allow equip only 1 Recombined item per toon, or something. They'll find balance, I believe. |

I opened recomb bench once, whacked in a couple items picked 1 mod on each - 8% chance of success.
Thats the last time ill ever open the recomb bench, back to trade it is! |

Currently, the recombinator is a good tool for mid to early endgame.
It's decent enough if you want mid-tier items, but it's quite clear that it's not useful for crafting mirror-tier items. One can imagine that its functionality will evolve with future updates. |

" In theory it can work even for mirror items. Mathematically is possible, at some point, to hit what you want even with that 0.01% chance. Is just a matter of time and resources, but not impossible. Now, no one will "test" that (obviously), but is not correct to deny that "outcome". But I share your use cases, felt the same about it, and as a mechanic itself I find it quite interesting. Looking forward to its future changes (if any, most likely there will since Mark seemed invested into the feedback about Recombs as we seen in Zizaran's interview). At the eve of the end

Some of the people on the dev team really like rng. The game also seems to balanced around trade. My guess is they expect people in trade league to use this to create bases to start the "crafting" process.
Dedicated Poe 1 players already spend tons of divines to make gear. I imagine they don't really care that this would take tons of attempts to get something worthwhile. I agree with you however, it's crap. I was looking forward to it, but I knew GGG wouldn't actually make a reliable crafting system, so I"m not surprised it turned out to be crap.
