Tiered items are a band-aid. Just cull low tier mods on high level items by default instead.

The tiered items don't feel like a true fix. All non tiered items that drop now are comparably just garbage the player should ignore. Even if this patch was technically an improvement, loot is just a different flavor of depressing. I'd rather everything that drops had a small amount of low tier mod culling instead of getting the occasional high tier unidentified item lottery drops. If all high item level base types that drop no longer have the potential to be COMPLETELY useless then engaging with them would be a lot more enjoyable. Another thing to consider is that tiered mods don't really help fix crafting, while this change would. If innate low tier mod culling existed then It would apply to crafting new mods onto the items as well. " Uh... That's mathematically questionable. Either way though item drops just feel bad. It's not like we need god tier drops for the game to feel good. Just usable or craftable filler items that drop more than once in a blue moon. |

The issue with tiered items is that they gurantee good modifiers only for the mods that are already on the item. So any added mods by lets say exalts can be really bad like T1.

I do think normal items should just cull lower level mods to begin with instead of the need for tiered items in the first place though. Think about it. If only tiered mods culled low tier mods when you used currency on them then there would be no reason to every try crafting on any non tiered items. If I recall correctly high tier just filters out hot garbage mods.
Like "increased light radius" Apart from that when you get those "amazing" tie2-3 unidentified items you want T8+ anyway |

Yeah, don't feel tiered drops are that much better in practice.
Although I doubt they'll change it. It's designed specifically this way to force us to farm for Omens and use Omens to remove low tiered affixes. The whole game is designed around needing to farm for every little bit of improvement on your items. Every little bit of design that "don't make sense" actually fits perfectly in their grand scheme of things: to keep players farming for hours and hours then waste all that farming on one craft and get nothing out of it, just to make the player go back to farm again. Tiered items are very well designed from GGG's perspective. From our perspective it's really trash. |
