The Current Race Format Excludes Most Players. Let's Make It Better for Everyone
Hi GGG,
I want to share some honest thoughts about the current race format in Path of Exile 2, especially after seeing the 0.2 event announcement. I’ve been a fan of the game for a long time, and I care deeply about its growth and community. But right now, I feel disappointed, and I know I’m not alone. When you first introduced races in 0.1, I thought, “Okay, maybe this is just the first version , it’ll get better.” But to my surprise, the 0.2 races are almost identical. The only real changes are a new class and different rewards. The format itself still caters exclusively to the top 0.001% of players, the speedrunners who practice for hours every day. The rest of us? We’re left out. A. Why This Format Isn’t Working • No participation rewards: There’s zero reason for most players to even join the race. If you're not a top-tier racer, there’s nothing to gain. • No room for casuals or dedicated fans: People who love the game and play regularly aren’t being acknowledged — even though we’re the ones keeping the servers alive between leagues. • Minimal community impact: These races don’t generate hype or bring people back. I want to be able to tell my friends, “Hey, there’s a race event — if you kill Doryani in 3–5 hours, you get a cool reward!” But instead I’m left saying, “It’s just for pros. Don’t bother unless you can grind 16 hours a day.” B. What Could Be Better? • Add participation rewards: Something small — cosmetics, mystery boxes, currency, or even just a badge/title — for completing milestones like killing Doryani, finishing Act 2, or reaching a certain level. • Split race brackets: Have an elite/pro tier and a casual/participation tier. Let everyone have fun, no matter their skill level. • Make races more inclusive and varied: Introduce modifiers, team races, or even random skill/passive events that lower the skill ceiling and raise the fun factor. C. What’s Your Goal, GGG? • If your goal is to increase player activity and engagement, then designing events for only the top 0.001% won’t cut it. Most of us aren’t looking to top the ladder, we just want to feel involved and rewarded for showing up. • Please consider reworking the format to encourage more participation. It doesn’t have to be drastic, just something that gives every player a reason to log in, play, and feel like they were part of something special. Thanks for reading, and I hope we can work toward events that include everyone who loves Path of Exile. Best Regard, A concerned and hopeful player PoE 2? +1 to this
I dont understand why GGG out of the sudden changed their focus so much. This was not the case with the races back in PoE1. Its the same way how they seem to focus only one the few top content creators and their OP builds that cost as much divines as the rest of us will never see in the entire lifespan of PoE1 + PoE2 together. And then use that as an excuse to nerf normal builds to the ground. both things make me think GGG is very out of touch with the real playerbase atm. a game will always have to thread the difficult needle to cater to the diffrent playerbases. but the moment u start to make massive changes around the very few tiny % of ppl that play professionally - u destroy the game for the rest 99%. same with only ever rewarding the very few % that can play 16/24 a day. |

Agree. Not interested in this event at all.
They could tie it to some personal challenge then it would be more interesting for the wider playerbase. Let's say create a new character next to your existing ones and beat your personal record for finishing act 1 (3 acts is really stretching it for people who arn't pro in this game). Bonus if you can do it without dying. Sure, it could be cheesed but who gives a damn. It's just a game in the end and players are supposed to have fun whatever that means for the individual. |

I came here searching for reasons why the old race format was abandoned for PoE 1. Why not just make a ladder with points or let's say rewards for the top player, the top 100 and the top 1000 in each class? Sure it would require some more work to set up, but at least there would be a much higher incentive for good players who don't see themselves reaching the top place.
