Trade Marketplace

Core Frustrations with the Current Trade System:
Unresponsive Sellers – Messaging 10–20 sellers per item is now standard. Many are offline, AFK, or uninterested in actually selling.

Ghost Listings – Items often remain listed despite being sold or moved, creating false availability.

Price Fixing – Bad actors list bait items at unrealistic prices to manipulate perceived market value, particularly in high-demand niches.

Time Zone Disparity – A global player base means that many sellers are simply unavailable when others are playing. A player in North America may be browsing a trade board full of items listed by players in EU or Asia who are asleep or at work, adding to the unresponsiveness issue.

Gameplay Disruption – Leaving the game to use third-party websites, sending messages, and waiting for replies drags players out of the core gameplay loop.

Proposed Solution:
Introduce a true in-game marketplace or auction house system, similar to what World of Warcraft and other modern online games have implemented. Key features would include:

Asynchronous Trading: Buy and sell without requiring both parties to be online.

Global Availability: A marketplace bypasses the problem of mismatched play hours due to time zones.

Auto Delivery: Purchased items could be delivered directly to a stash tab or in-game mailbox, maintaining immersion and efficiency.

Real-Time Listings & Filters: Comprehensive search and comparison tools, all within the game UI.

Price History & Trends: Helps regulate values and minimizes manipulation.

Why This Is Critical for Path of Exile 2:
Path of Exile 2 is an opportunity to modernize systems that have otherwise stood in the way of player satisfaction and accessibility. A revamped marketplace would:

Encourage more casual and new players to engage with the economy.

Minimize friction for endgame-focused players who rely on efficient gear acquisition.

Better reflect the game's global community by removing timezone barriers.

Reduce reliance on third-party tools for such a core aspect of the game.

Face-to-face trading could still remain for high-end or negotiated transactions, but adding a marketplace option would create a healthier, more inclusive and time-respectful economy for all.

Thank you for your continued innovation and dedication to evolving the ARPG genre. I’m looking forward to what PoE 2 becomes — and hope this feedback contributes to a more modern and enjoyable experience.

GGG might be able to implement something like that but it will take a really long time.

It would be a lot easier to focus on the ability to buy/sell items offline and implement just a mechanism which could be extended or improved over time. I would rather keep using web sites but have the ability to buy/sell items from offline sellers as it's just a lot less time consuming than chasing half of China for another +5 wand.

Probably a special tab for Alva where you can drop any item while selecting target price in POE2 currency with "transaction" payment in gold somehow proportional to either item value or price.
Now we need two special "transaction" tabs in stash - one for outbound (reaonly remove only) where your Alva sells are going and an inbound tab where items are displayed after being selected via trade website. It would require another search mode on the trade website and instead of "wisper" would preselect items to be displayed in the inbound stash tab.
Then in the game you can just purchase it as if it's a vendor tab for a predefined amount of currency and probably gold to pay the transaction fee.

This approach would give us the ability to see what we're selling and buying in real time while limiting the number of items for both processes by tab size. The same time partially relying on already existing functionality to improve ttm as it would be great to have something rather soon than a perfect auction-house-like solution in 2 years time.

I'm assuming all items in the game have unique ids and/or GGG can wrap buy/remove process in a single tech. transaction to prevent duplicates. Various timeout mechanics could be implemented to prevent bots from shuffling items in/out 100 times a minute from sellers tab but likely using gold as a limiting factor would be enough.

It is the maintenance of the trade system and other systems that promote elitist culture that has always marred PoE1 and these are now marring PoE2 as well.

Runaway inflation is a disease within the system. The ground drops are a joke. Recombination is in its long-term stingy phase, and there are numerous DPS and defensive walls to bust through in order to survive content.

Listings for a weapon with decent damage to tackle the Tier15+ start with 1 Divine and then jump to 100 divines for the next entry on the list! Who can afford that? The other rich users who are able to exploit the system.

GGG should come up with deflationary systems to tamp down all this greed and BS. Have vendor system tie into the trade system inventory and occasionally undercut the market with items and weapons that are 1-3 tiers below comparable offerings from the trade market.

Set exchange rate caps. It's absolutely nuts.

It really wouldn't, in fact their current system using an external website to message people in game, etc was likely FAR more work than an in-game auction house style trading system. It's not happened due to the lie most devs tell themselves "it will encourage botting", even though encountering boost botting and trade botting is already a common thing if you trade a lot.
