Newbie report.
" Calling others a troll, because you don't get the claim? Mhm. There is no reason for a 'normal' mount, because there are waypoints. You don't walk around for minutes on empty maps. |

Last league I came in a few weeks late and completely blind.
I didn't watch any of the dev videos or preview stuff from youtubers. I heard it was popular and I was getting burned out on shadow of the erdtree. I thought I would give it a shot. There is very little in the direction of how to play or how to play effectively. I was on T1 maps and dying constantly before an old friend pointed me in the right direction. At the time, I thought the resistances were nice to have in some areas. I figured you'd have a challenge with some enemies and that would be it. If you found some gear with res, awesome. If not, better luck next time. Nowhere in the game does it inform you that you need resistances to 75/85. It's a specific number and I had no idea. As far as my build goes: Last league I went with an invoker and just kind of fell into a stat stacking build. The star at the bottom of the passive tree just seemed like a logical benefit. I didn't know it was a thing until later. Two characters later, I still don't really know how to build. I don't really want to follow the build guides. I would like to just use my imagination. As a result, I'm struggling. It seems that my imagination isn't always viable. Similar to the resistances thing in the last league, I still don't really know how much life, energy shield, evasion, etc you should have or at least aim for. I guess just a lot of it. How much should I spend on a specific element or damage type on the skill tree? How many defensive nodes should I aim for? As frustrating as it is to hit a wall and not know why, I do like experimenting and trying to pinpoint the actual problem. The issue with that is the time investment to experiment is really high and when I get it wrong, it takes a long time to fix. The PoE community is just like, "figure it out". Ok. I'm fine with that but there is absolutely nothing wrong with direction from the game on how to play with an opportunity to be effective. I went into Elden Ring completely blind like I did here. In my opinion, it is absolutely the best way to approach a game. Tool tips are a thing. TLDR; the game is a lot of fun but needs to do more in teaching the player the complexities. |

" There's nothing wrong with being new and following a build guide, or at least familiarizing yourself with a few different ones. Nothing wrong with outsourcing all the testing required to other people. There's a kind of hypocrisy in not wanting to follow a guide but then asking for target numbers on defenses. If you're getting killed, the answer is "more". In most cases it's just better to be able to kill enemies before they can start hitting and stunning you. Use the resources out there to get a grasp of the game mechanics, then you can try getting creative. Although, it is early access and creativity is going to be extremely limited--not all classes are out, the passive tree isn't finished, more skill gems are coming, more items are coming, etc. | |
" 2. I grew up on Diablo and Diablo clones having mouse only movement, then later you could bind a key to movement (better for hand health to take some clicks off mouse hand) but in that case you still have to position the mouse cursor for movement and combat. When I started PoE2 and it asked about WASD, I was like, "Are you crazy?" Then I tried it, and it's way better. Now I want it in DIV and all games like this. I feel like bosses can be designed better when you have better control over movement, from being able to move with keys and use mouse to target mobs/bosses. 3. Fat mobs as in too much health? Everything is dying fast to me, except bosses, but I also switched from doing a blind build to using a meta one near the Act 1. In this game unless you have a lot of knowledge about it, it's probably better to use a guide. It's been this way for all ARPGs for a long time, if you're new and not using a guide, you're going to have a rougher time. 4. I don't mind the inventory size, I don't go to town as often as I did in DII and you don't have a book of teleport scrolls taking up space in your inventory. 5. Well the game is pay to access now, but it's going to go F2P, by not buying a $50-$60US price everyone has to pay, you have to expect less in some areas. Diablo II had only one look for all characters, III had male/female, IV has customization but then at least in my case I cover it all up in armor, so this isn't something I care about. I think I read they are going to eventually add more looks as a microtransaction, but same deal, I just cover up in armor here, and you have to pay to hide ie. helm anyway which is the most of character model I'd want to reveal, and at least right now I don't think I'm interested in paying every time I want to hide a new helm to see a head I might've had to pay $20US (not sure what price will be but assuming at least 200 currency) to get a full model to access a different head. |

" Im saying the game should provide that information, not a third party. Also, watching what others are doing kind of spoils the game in a small way. |
