I gave this league 12 h but POE2 is Just Anti-Fun
I had zero fun from acts 1-3. It's as miserable as it was in 0.2. Only in act 4 the game finally became enjoyable for me about 20 hours in.
My suggestion to GGG how to fix it: make current +20% the default movement speed, half HP of white mobs in acts 1-3, reduce the number of maps (there are plenty redundant ones that don't offer anything to the experience), half the walking distances of the remaining maps, stop being stingy about currency and rune drops, open up trade from the beginning or act 2, drop plenty leveling uniques early. |

" Not entirely true. I play games 10ish hours a day, and I HATE PoE2. As a PoE1 veteran, I was super excited when PoE2 came out. I played over 450 hours in the first few weeks, and I hated every second of it. I uninstalled and did not touch this slog fest that rewards none of your time investment. Fast forward, I haven't touched PoE2 since then, but I watched the 0.3 announcement and gave Jonathan the Liar the benefit of the doubt. It only took me 50ish hours this time to uninstall. This garbage vision of theirs is only making me mad every minute I play it, so why bother. They wanted the toxic minority of Souls genre, they have them. Good luck making money, this ain't PoE1-golden-goose. |

Unfortunately I've to agree that Poe2 will not last long in my GamesList. Will finishing the story and I'm done.
Major point: Poe1 = GREAT for me because you have so many tools. Poe2 = Forcing you into things (this VERY repetitive kite pattern) with so little to no tools to solve something. So i disagree so much with that one design pattern to hide so many solutions (low support skill gem drop rate, new market system only for higher lvls, basic resistance rings not consistently available at vendor, blink needs 60 spirit and then has uncomfortable cooldown) that I can't enjoy the ONE HUNDRED improvements to Poe1. As the game design seems intended this way, I don't see how it will change in the future. Just for example, the toolbox Poe1 made all what they desired already possible: Combos were ofc possible, even so not viable. I HAD FUN trying the bleed-poison-flameTotem-shieldcharge Inquisitor through the acts. And my spectre-bane-darkPactTotem build with high ES is slow but really tanky. If you don't want to kill Maven and do a lot of other content with such stuff, you CAN DO IT. Mathil killed UberElder with some FlameDash Totems. The Point is: The disadvantage of playing this stuff in Poe1 was already there. It was a) grinding with some other Charakters or b) slow progression to get things done. I choose option b) almost always in Poe1. Using the toolbox and think what solves the issue is the fun. And Poe2 just quadrupelt/increased/mutliplied the flaw by 10000000000000000000 of not being able to progress in a customized and fun way with nonMeta stuff. Just try to lvl with a simple fireball spell. In Poe1 SSF leveling fireball is a bit of a hustle but you'll manage it in some hours. In Poe2 its DAYS of doge role/no change with no relief in a "trading" league. So many content is hidden behind a) ten times the hours of grinding or b) unreachable barriers so that "play specific things to progress in campaign" is way more mandatory than in Poe1. To repeat myself and other posts: in Poe1 you can be fast, you can be slow, you can be tanky, you can have a straight forward 1 button pattern, you can have a kiting back 3 button pattern, etc. .... whatever you like. From all i've seen in Poe2 its always kiting back dodge role. Even the streamers with the "breezing" meta builds dodge role forward (or ide if they fail xD) for most of the time. For hours, it doesn't fundamentally change. Again, it's not a choice. Do or die. The small tactic aspect in it (read what monsters do and adept) is good, but overtuned so heavily. because it needs just a little brain work to figure it out and use a different skill for a different situation, but that's narrowed down to maybe 3 different scenarios. And then you got forced to repeat that scenario 30 times (At least in campaign during Boss fights, yeah don't tike fireball for single target, swap to ember fusillade for that, ofc dodge role meanwhile, I got it, but why I have to this situational skill now 30+ times with good gear?????). Ironically: Where is the tabula rasa for skill gems, the cheap leveling uniques early on, the lemming down a boss. Not all stuff in Poe1 was a pretty solution, I'd say, but you GOT THE CHOICE. I'd hope Poe2 offers other solutions at some point. But offer them! Let me decide if I wanna slow boss, or fast, dodge or tank. That all depends on my mindset (wanna relax, wanna action, wanna farm quickly). Dodge role 24/7 from monsters narrowed the Poe universe of possibilities down to a slog fest. This basic design pattern is not taken care of: If a lot of options are not viable, the system is not complex, it's just tedious. Poe1 made sometimes that mistake in temporary leagues but did generally a good job in that regard, especially the last years. Poe2 wants to sell me the tedious kite pattern as what? "meaning full" combat? My opinion: Just tune that kite pattern down, make it OPTIONAL, and the game could be fine for me. | |
I genuinely hope poe1 types dont come back in 0.4 only to rage about it again.
SteamDB shows retention and numbers that matter and people keep coming back because we enjoy the game. 0.3 is great and I just reached maps. I absolutely love the combo nature of the game, I dont want to brainlessly spam 1 ability, i want to weave in multiple stuff based on the situation.
