RIP clear - they gave it the tornado shot treatment.
I mean, damage is untouched, so it'll still be great for bossing which is the main thing this league. Honestly, we can just take that Piercing Shot cluster + Lethal Assault lane for proj speed and we'll be fine.
Yea will be interesting to see actual numbers tomorrow - just to see how much proj speed we will need to get a comfortable amount of clear.

Other things to keep in mind:
- AoE change + base wand damage increase which may offset the multimod nerf
- Chill & shock buff to increase boss damage potential & general survivability
so what say our expirienced miners? is it a nerf or will the build be still very strong fot the legue start and endgame?
( arc buff.. so whats with arc mines?)

Still too early to tell. We know only that they are nerfing the range of the projectiles but not by how much or whether that is the only nerf.

Same goes with Arc. Hopefully patch notes tomorrow will clarify exactly how big the nerf is and how much projectile speed we need to reach pre-nerf levels.

That will take some in game testing to see how it plays. Before it would clear like 3 screens away. Won’t affect dps, but may affect clear.
Adding a couple of sections to OP:

League Start:

Aside from the leveling guide, the general guide to getting started with mines in a new league is very simple.

The build gets most of it's power from gem levels and you are really looking at just grabbing any hybrid rares until you hit maps - those rares can last you until red maps in SC.

The tree should not be any different than the tree listed in in the PoB links - just focus on taking the right side of the tree first, followed by the section above scion, finishing up with the middle section above witch. Nearly all of the damage comes from the right side of the tree and that should carry you as nothing should even come close to touching you with the amount of damage the build has while leveling.

Generally speaking the first few purchases for the build are going to be high ES rares and a unique or two - both Sink Trek and a variety of unique weapons are my go-tos early on in leagues.

Your first big purchase will probably be Shav's followed by Presence. After that you are just looking to improve gear slots and level.

All of this above is assuming a SC league start. In HC, this is not a great league start character without planning out a different tree - one heavily invested in life, or having good leveling gear ready for you.

In SC, I would probably expect to die once or twice just speed running to maps - although I have used this build in the past few leagues to get to maps wearing mostly level 30 gear without deaths, so it is certainly possible.

One final note on league starts - often times it is best just to skip league content until maps unless league content gives good leveling loot and is fast to complete. In that case, just run the league content every other zone and skip all other mobs.


3.9 Thoughts and Musings so Far:

- Icicle is receiving a nerf to it's range. Hard to say how this will affect the build at the moment. It may simply just see us change out pierce in favor of chain - but it will need testing. The damage did not change, so we are still one of the best boss killers in the game.

- No Breach on Zana. This makes Presence more expensive. Not unobtainable, but certainly more costly as the blessing will be somewhere in the 5-10ex range if I had to guess. With that in mind, Eye of Chayula is a common item, but just doesnt give the added ES (or Chaos res) as it's upgraded counterpart. Kiara's is another option (which could also open up more damage flasks to be used), Valyrium is a good early game option as well, and honestly isnt a terrible ring.

-Added elemental resists on all mobs. We already have quite a bit of PEN, but this change will most likely make PEN much more valuable. It may even be a 6th best gem for us. Will need testing to confirm.

First of all thanks for the amazing guide!

Second of all thanks for this update - this is exactly what those of use who aren't experience miners need to know.

Will you be starting with this build in 3.9 to personally test the changes and re-optimize the tree/gear (proj speed/chain/etc.), or should we look out in the comments here for feedback from others?
