10% XP loss Death Penalty Feedback!

Bottom line: Exp penalties are not "fun". They are a source of frustration.

This is a game.

Games should be fun.

There's no reason at all people should be gatekept from reaching level 100 at their own speed if that's their goal.

Some friction should exist in games. But yeah the exp-loss is not the way to go.

PoE1 had it perfectly fine just with the 6 portals. Just need to make it so that bosses reset on death.

That way you got 6 portals to clear a map and 6 lives for bosses but the bosses reset if you die.

Friction is death itself and the 6 lives.
xp loss before lvl 90 is so trivial...some mechanics need tweaking and some ground effect and death effect need more visibility but this don't rly have anything to do with penality on death.

Also not everyone think, "dam it's hard i'll go take 10 level farming T1 maps" some ppl actually like to be challenged you know.

you can do late game stuff from lvl 85 at this point 10% xp loss is not that hard to grind back. There's no need to reach max level, and of course it's supposed to be hard.

so hell no i totaly disagree with ppl who want no penality on death, hopefully if ggg listen to them they can have an easy server with different rule and not change the softcore to make it bowring af. Then it's perfectly fine, different servers different markets and leaderboard sure enjoy the no penality mode i'm sure then you'll all agree to ask for boss nerf and better drop rate and have it,be my guess! but understand some players like chalenging environement.

I will totaly give hardcore a trye once some of the busted mechanics are fixed but for now softcore as it is penality whise is perfectly fine afaic.

actually one solution i could cope with to help with the "issue" is make xp loss gradually increase. Like at lvl 70 you lose 0.5% and then an additional 0.5% for each lvl up, mayyybeee. So it's still 10% for 90+ but it make it easier to get there (not that i think it's needed but well i would not mind it)

Death and losing portals was penalty enough.

No, getting exp isn't hard, it's just time consuming.
If I knew that i would get lvl 100 by playing 2 months, I would play 2 months.

For me its that simple.

ur so right bro. But ego andys will always defend design choices that push out casuals which is bad for ggg

how are you failing to see that you're the ego andy because you're blaming the game instead of yourself?

I'm only stating the truth, if you play a good build and don't suck at the game, you'll pretty much never die. you can't expect to be immortal in t16 maps with 2200 life and a bunch of evasion

and now some people will say "but there are only a few good builds, it's impossible to progress with other builds!"

dead wrong, any build can blast T18 maps in this game with the correct gear/tree approach. this is a VERY EASY game compared to poe 1. some of them will be more difficult to play, some of them will require more currency, but that's the nature of all arpgs

and what the hell makes you think ggg wants to keep megacasuals around? do you think ggg is stupid and don't already know how anti-casual some mechanics are?

The issue isn't whether the builds are good or not, or whether a player is skilled or not.

It's how people feel about the mechanic. And there will always be unfair situations where you die, without being able to do anything about it.

That is the nature of PoE.

I died the other day and lost XP because my cat jumped onto my desk. So, what's your suggestion there? To lock her in a cage while I play PoE?

Arguably, skill has little to do with this game outside of dodging boss mechanics.

It's a number game, either you got the numbers to clear screens or you don't. If you don't you can't progress.

I'd be down for that if they also change all the bosses and maps to make them challenging.

If you aren't dying every four or five maps, then what's the point of mapping?

so how come those unfair situations never happen to some players?

I was dying left and right around level 70, because I was lazy and didn't really improve my build/gear after getting out of acts, just wanted to keep blasting without spending time to buy items and think about the optimal passive tree

now that my build is almost complete and I have decent pieces of gear in every slot, I haven't died in days although I'm running T18 maps. if I die once, I'll immediately invest more currency into my build and try to get more ehp

there are no "random" one shots, there are builds that are way too squishy that even a shitty hit that's not supposed to be dodged kills them

So... How would not having the XP penalty have changed that?
