Nope nope nope and nope.

Exp loss is outdated, and should be deleted/made optional.

The fact remains, the majority of people want this. And a lot of players have quit because of it. So it's only a matter of time till there is some kind of change with exp, and I look very much forward to it.

Just like the 1-portal change that people thought would never happen.

the only correct thing in this post, is that everyone wanted, (and expected, you are wrong on that) the 1 portal change.

out of pure curiousity though.... can you explain to me this..

how are you going to make it optional and have a ladder?

i would love to hear how you would do this... as a non dev.
and i am sure they would too.

i literally. hang on your every word for this.... one thing.

If you care so much about it then go and get rank 1 for your ascendancy in gauntlet and other race events in PoE 1, where its an actual achievement and you get prizes and sometimes demigod's mtx. But trying to push this fake "ladder" competitiveness onto every other player and using it as an excuse to keep a bad mechanic like exp loss in the game is just not ok.

If they want their "race to X thing" so badly just make special event leagues where exp loss is enabled.

The simplest solution is seperate server with exp loss on for the 0.0000001% that want it, and let everyone else have fun. Or make it optional, and if your exp loss is off then you won't show up on ladder. There's your solution.

99% of players won't care at all that their character doesn't show up on poe.ninja or ladder lmao

THIS !
they already have the seperate server for you to have fun. and not care about the ladder. or xp. or literally anything.

its called standard.

i mean really...

you guys are not doing yourselves any favor. what. so. ever.

so blind that you cant see the light surrounding you.

i can only prove you wrong and W take you so many times, before i lose interest lol

For F sake you all are correct.

Its BAD and GOOD.

This is why it will never change, they are dammed if they do and dammed if they dont.

Unless you can change Marks idea on player punishment it will never change.

Mark didnt want ascendency changes (was forced too)

Mark loves the trials and exp penalty unless ONE of you can convince him its archaic this will never sway him.

Jonathan is just the captain, Mark is the enforcer always has been, always will be.

I stopped caring even dying at level 98 which hurts alot for someone like me trying to reach 100, because no arguments presented has even caused him to question why its their and forced him to explain the pro's and con's.

To mention ladder etc is all conspiracy, Mark will need to explain, only he knows, everyone else is just like a dog farting in the wind, until then dont bother arguing or trying to convince others your are right.

P.S

I am a Dog and i will just drop my load and leave on to the next post

So what's good about it?

Player punishment already comes in losing your juiced map and its mechanics. It's a far more motivating punishment than EXP loss as well.

Requires zero skill to cap with or without it, just too much time and a willingness to waste more of it.

That would be a wonderful compromise for everyone, but it has one major flaw: Some people don't want you to reach the maximum level. Their enjoyment relies on you not reaching the same goals.

It's like the classic experiment where two Capuchin monkeys get "paid" for the same task: one with a cucumber, the other with a grape. The first monkey is happy to receive a cucumber, but the moment it sees the other monkey get a grape, it starts throwing the next cucumber away and throws a tantrum (and yes, that's a real experiment you can look up).

Some people's enjoyment seems to require the existence of others who cannot have the same things as them.
The closest thing to removing xp penalty I can think of is would be instead increasing xp needed to level and giving xp to people for not dying. Similar to the xp fountains you can collect in Diablo or how WoW swapped from an XP penalty for playing X amount of time to an XP bonus system for being logged off for X amount of time. I would like it less than the current system but it would avoid the "I lost something" feeling so many people seem to bring up while maintaining current balance for the most part.

Even then though, I like the current XP system. Either you gear up and level as a result or you actively target leveling up as a goal and pursue it. Without any limitation xp becomes a non-mechanic. It just becomes some meaningless grind that kinda happens on the side sometimes. Which means either it becomes increasing time consuming to accomplish OR it turns PoE into one more game where you need to reach max level before you're really playing the game. By having never reached lvl 100 I've never felt like my build on started at level X. Once lvl 100 becomes an expectation I feel like the first 99 levels will feel like a barrier. Sort of like how in PoE 1 the campaign feels like shit because it's a barrier to endgame. But in PoE 2 or Grim Dawn the campaign is the gameplay because it is good enough on it's own.

TDLR: I want leveling to be optional instead of mandatory and xp penalties accomplish that. Given that I have yet to see another ARPG accomplish that I vote yes on xp penalties.
I like the idea mentioned previously, where if you die in a map, it reduces the xp reward within that map. Reduction can be done incrementally depending on the number of revives (i.e. 1 revive means death goes to 0% on death, 3 revives, you lose 33% per death, so the final run of a map means 0% xp). This would make maps meaningful still and provide a reward to flawlessly clearing a map. It would also rid the game of the slogfest of making negative progress when you die, especially at high levels. Worst case, you die 3 times in a 3 revives map, and you are on your last life, you still get the rewards from the map, but your progress on xp is paused for that map.
