Endgame has too many monsters that die too fast. Zooming is boring.

As you progress in ARPG, there are more monsters. Your character gets more powerful.

At a point the pacing changes from dodging most things to positioning correctly.

While I agree there is a lot on screen, and more could be done to mitigate it, I do not agree with the sentiment that slowing down the game, or having less monsters, fixes this problem.

It is simply in the nature of ARPG for this to happen. I believe they should strive to do better to mitigate the issues that players face with clarity when many things are happening on screen, and make more powerful monsters and effects that can kill strong players.

I believe that traditional combat pacing in ARPG has it's place in the campaign and early progression, and then in the late game the skill expression outside of bossfights is something separate.

End-game and campaign/ progression are not to be treated the same, they each have their own separate issues that should be balanced separately. End-game cannot be solved with less monsters and better pacing, it needs more interactive mechanics for powerful characters that operate in a different vein from just basic combat. Positional stuff mostly. It needs love in terms of cleaning up the clutter on screen, especially in multiplayer. It needs more powerful monsters that pose a threat to those prone to zoning out.

The campaign and early prog is where traditional combat pacing should remain, and where we should worry about it's integrity and weight. This is definitely not at the most optimal place, but what would help is more players specifically playing the game to feel out a skill's progression and giving feedback on how it feels when it breaks.

I think GGG did a fantastic job with abyss monsters in terms of late-game interactivity. They really wire me into the map. The effects clutter the screen a bit much, but the fact they are powerful adversaries is really good. The immunity and degen is dangerous so the risk of dying keeps you concentrated. More stuff like this with less visual clutter would really help late game.
