Death exp penalty is the worst decision this company ever made, and keep doing over and over again.
Threads like this immediately attract all of the same "guardians" of this awful feature; and since they make a big discussion, it may seem like this is about 50% popular; but just observe the thread below; there's good indication the death exp penalty is the number one reason people quit the game:

These "guardians" are just much more vocal about wanting to keep it. Or just not let anyone else have it, in separate leagues.
Which makes sense, they must have a lot of free time in their hands. And well, they're here for much more time than people who decided to quit, of course.
Without death exp penalty, certain web stores selling Poe items would see their real money prices fall a lot... just saying.
Sadly, GGG always sides with this over-active minority. No surprise there either, since they care for streamers' opinions, that see this game as a full-time money-making job.

you know, it would be great if people really considered the arguments for keeping the death penalty instead of ignoring them and coming up with some elaborate conspiracy theories.
also wouldn't it be great if the game stopped killing you at random without giving you even a split second to react? i feel like this itself would ameliorate the XP loss to acceptable levels for vast majority, yet here we are, another XP loss thread

You definitely have to remove -10% of the experience for death, and now I'll tell you why.:
1. In endgame, it doesn't motivate you to find the best items for the build, simply because they don't exist for any money. All the best is already on the character.
2. Due to the unwillingness to lose the hard-earned experience, the player does not go to the most interesting content.
3. Players who come from other games, seeing this, twist their finger at their temples and say, "Are you masochists playing this? We don't have that in D4.
4. Yes, I like this game, but the penalty is based on experience, believe me, it's not cool. At some point, you realize that your build has reached the ceiling and there is no further progress. Otherwise, you're wasting your time, or you're redesigning the build for the meta. I think that's not cool either.
And finally. Yes, you made an omen, under the action of which 1 time per map the player gets -2.5% experience instead of -10%, but it's still not cool, because for 1 map the player gets 1% or less. And anyway, after death, he will no longer go for an interesting and exciting monster or boss, even if there are still portals left.
Please remove the -10% death penalty. You'll see, it'll be better.

Please be reminded that POE was made because the Developers loved the Diablo 2 games.

Yes, another one. I've lost count of the number of these I've personally seen myself over the last, what, some 14 years of Poe 1. All with multiple pages, all with the same arguments come up every time from both sides. If you think your argument is new, think again.
It always made a good chunk of forum discussion, a clear and constant player complain over all of those years, clear reason people leave the game, many never to return, yet is never ever talked about by devs, while other much smaller things in forums are. At some point you have to zoom out and see the bigger picture.
For example, the ones against eliminating it are always the only ones against having just the OPTION for players to play with it or without it, in separate leagues that never touch. They'd never touch that league; but don't want that option to be available for others, since that'd make more work for devs, that would be occupied not doing other things they want. Discussing anything is useless in such an environment, it's clearly not about arguments.

In a game without combat logs to adjust your approach, or free respects during a BETA PHASE where you can alter your build, or even knowing how to correct what even happened, XP loss is ANYTHING but fair.
Let's say you go to the grocery and while you're inside, I notice that your tire is touching the parking space line.
Then is it fair to deflate your tires and unscrew your oil pan?
It's your fault. Who cares that you're just touching it and not over?
Who cares that the space itself is narrow?
Why should anyone care?
You're effectively arguing against something that has no impact on you or how you play.
In fact, you're arguing against more revenue from potential customers.

The only way that's acceptable for both sides, would be to make you choose whether you want to loose XP on death or not - and give some sort of reward to these whom reached level 100 with XP Loss on.
Also, these would need to be within same trade economy, as splitting the playerbase more is just a bad idea.
Characters that lose xp on death and those that don't cannot occupy the same ladder. I hope I don't need to explain why.
This has been brought up before and as far as implementation goes would need to boil down to a baby mode league, which would lead to... splitting the player base.

Well, I don't know why they cannot occupy same server, but you seem genuinely convincing, so no need to elaborate.
My vote goes for XP-Loss-stays then.
