GGG which lane are you on: Mindless Blasting or "Visceral" combat

Escape moves and gap closers like escape shot only work in slower combat. I remember watching that huntress gameplay ur referencing. It was so fun to watch. Have you ever seen anyone use escape shot? I know I haven't. You don't need to when you can kill screen wide enemies in 1 click.

I watched some streamers used those escape/gap closer skills for movement.
Looked extremely dumb just like hopping around in PoE1 with leap slam.

Why keep pumping money into PoE1 if the returns on your investment are much higher in PoE2?

ROI is only good on POE 2 because they sold the beta. There is almost zero MTX for POE 2, it would be hemorrhaging money if it weren't for them selling the game.

EDIT: GGG also stated they are making china pay another $30 when chinese servers launch.

They cashing in HARD without mtx sales haha

Yeah I haven't seen or heard too much specifically since they said EA fully paid for all of the development spent into PoE2, which is absolutely wild. They're monetizing out heavily already though and the player base is still higher overall it seems. Hard to believe it's not at least as profitable and only likely to go up from here.

Yes, but as a F2P game, if they didn't make it NOT f2p... they wouldn't be making money.

You know how many people bought MTX in 0.1 with their free points, only to find it's not even supported in POE 2? Quite a few.

The true numbers will be revealed when china gets it's own server.

I can say i've been in queue of over 300k in POE 1 several times on league launch. And that excludes china

I've just read the first six pages of this thread, but I really like the discussion.

One fast and simple solution to this conundrum might be rather simple: Add a notable to the passive or atlas tree called "The Zoomer" with the following effect:

"
Increase player's damage by 200%.
Increase mob density by 300%.
Reduce mob HP by 70%.
Reduce base drop rate by 80%.

With such an optional skill, GGG could design their game around meaningful combat while giving players a way to switch to "PoE 1 Mode" by just learning one notable, or make it an option that can be turned on and off.

This probably isn't the final answer, but GGG could achieve two things at once with such an option:

° Cater to both audiences

° See if zooming is what all players want. If every character uses this new node, it clearly shows that zooming is the way to go. If not, at least you can approximate how your player base divides into zoomers and slower players.

I wish GGG would come out and say what game is supposed to be because right now they're making no one happy - not the sonic enjoyers and not the people who want game play in their video game.

This complete radio silence AND complete lack of any post-league patches is baffling.

I'm very confused by your initial double negatives. You mean it wouldn't be profitable without the $30 access? Maybe, we'll see.

Not sure how cons having a separate server affects the math on ROI of Dev time tbh. It would make it go up if anything right? I'm not sure if current Chinese players have to jump through hoops and a China client will make it more accessible?

Well, that wouldn't really work out on the same server/league because the problem is more complex then just numbers. What would work really well for engaging combat wouldn't work out for zoom zoom and vice versa.
"Sigh"

Yes that's what I meant, as they have no MTX to sell. Which is where they make ALL of their money. 100% of their money comes from MTX and stash tabs, they never sold the game before. So at this point, without selling the access I don't think POE 2 would be profitable, they have nothing to sell.

So yeah, the $30 access garnered them more than they've ever made ever. In a single day. And they are gonna do it again in China.

The china client has things the other clients don't. They pay for levels and have pets that loot for you and all kinds of wild shit. China has it's own rules. TenCent upon buying GGG said "in china you do it our way" and GGG said yes sir.

My point with numbers being, China has NEVER been counted with launch numbers before, as they are kept separately.

So that 500k player peak? Likely about 300k excluding china, which puts it on par with POE 1 numbers. Not higher than POE 1 numbers.

They are both wildly successful, but at the moment POE 2 has like 30 minutes of endgame content. In POE 1 we spend like 1,000 hours per league. In POE 2 i'm bored to tears after like 200 hours. There's NOTHING to do.
PoE 2 should stay away from PoE 1 "combat" as far as possible.

Zooming is boring. When I defeat the whole screen on one click, this is game over for me, game is finished. The game no longer requires anything from me or my skills. I don't like it.

Bring PoE launch patch 0.1., Act 1 combat. - Best experience of PoE 2 so far :)

I don't think it was great either back then, first act was great, but after that… I can remember dieing countless times on the last 2 maps of act 2 — then doing the boss first try. That also should not be the case — they already had monster speed/density problems there.

I hope they still make good and visceral combat, but just reverting to 0.1 is surely not the way. Too many problems with scaling, monsters, speed…

I believe they could do it, but I kinda doubt they will. Making another PoE1 — while it might lose them 10% of overall players, will take much less effort in development. They can just port over mechanics until the games are literally the same, apart from skills and gear — flashy lights and loot. Also, a lot of streamers seem happy with the way it's going, sadly, which also pushes them to keep it up. I still want to see their original vision become reality, but money probably does not.
