More Secret Treasure Rooms in Campaign Dungeons - Incentive Exploration

Now we're talking! Imagine a secret room full of gold and chests and scattered bone piles. When you enter, the bones start to form a bone dragon. Possibilities are endless.

I guess I'm just too much of an endgame grinder because that suggestion doesn't add anything that really interests me.

You wouldn't want to add little more fun to the campaign? If the campaign isn't enjoyable, the game will surely die. People that lose interest don't even make it to the endgame.

Campaign is just as important as endgame for PoE2's longevity.

I would argue mostly players would love to find hidden secret rooms inside dungeons, with mounds of gold and chests. Who doesn't want that? It's not pointless fluff, but part of the core experience as well.


When they added some secret areas last league or the one before it. I went out of my way to look for them just for fun. In PoE1 literally nothing is worth doing due to how fast you level but I did it anyways. Like I mentioned in an earlier post about Diablo 1 and someone mentioned Zelda.

They hardly even need to be 'secret'. If you do it right players just want to know whats behind a door. Good or bad it always manages to peak interest and promote exploration.

I find it weird a lot of people will play Diablo 2 Nightmare/Hell difficulty but just do normal and say they're done with Diablo 1. D1 never loses that interest in exploring and it even has end-game. It's just not spelt out for the player. You worked on items like Thinking Cap or Shields so their durability was high. You maxed out utility spells on Warrior/Rogue. All of that took even more exploration.

I'm of the opinion that Iso ARPGs live and die on their endgame long term, not their campaign. I don't really care if they add this, just like I didn't care that they added similar things in PoE1 (there's a flask strongbox early on, a guaranteed unique somewhere else, others I don't remember). I'll just run straight past them if they get added to 2 exactly like I do in 1. Personally I think they have better things to invest effort into for quite a long time. Finishing the campaign, finishing the classes and ascendencies, and fixing the core endgame loop. Once those are in place, sure they can do all of this kind of stuff they want, it just won't really add anything to the game for me from the current suggestions. Which is fine.

Exactly. They are already working on finishing up the campaign, just include as part of the design process. As dungeon maps are still being worked on, GGG devs just add a few treasure rooms in their layouts. No additional resources needed.

I feel I can pretty confidently say you've never managed a software development project before based on that sentiment. 😅 They'll do what they'll do with this idea, but it should come after those other priorities, anything other than after will interfere and show down other priorities.
