After just one week poe2 has more players on steam then LE does

This thread is mostly copium.

It's entertaining at least, more entertaining then poe2 is.

Games were way better when I was a kid. Let's take fallout 1 for example. When you first begin the game you are told where to go. However when you get to the vault there's just a hole in the ground with no way to get down. So the only tip the game gave you is a dead end.

Now when you travel to the vault the game told you to go. A random town will pop up. If you happen to explore the town before you go to the marker the game gave you you will be given a quest. The quest has nothing to do with the vault you were originally given.

However, if you search a bookcase in one of the random houses you will find rope. And if you are clever enough you can take that rope to the vault and go down the hole and find an overpowered weapon. When you get the rope a quest marker doesn't pop up and say hey you should take this rope to the vault you were told to go to to explore it further. You have to figure this out yourself. This is 10/10 game design. The game doesn't hand hold you, the game doesn't have yellow paint plastered everywhere telling you where to go. You have to use your own intelligence and intellect to figure this out yourself. God fallout 1 was such a good game.

Now when poe2 first came out I saw glimpses of how games were back in the day. You have to figure things out for yourself, you are not guaranteed your 4th ascendancy. But no we can't have games like fallout 1 anymore because modern day gamers cannot handle it.

Modern day gamers are entitled. They want everything handed to them without any effort on their part. They want to follow a guide in order to get the rewards. They want broken builds so they don't have to learn boss mechanics. When something kills them they want the devs to remove this from the game.

I blame the people calling for a LE or D4 clone for never having new games be good anymore. Even though there are 100s of games that are like LE or D4. They refuse to let me have a new game that doesn't hold your hand. The forums are flooded with people who have been filtered demanding the game be changed to poe 1.5. I blame these people for the failure of modern day games.

Thank you for that, it’s exactly how I feel, and I’m sure it’s the same for many passionate and constructive players.

the difference is you could beat fallout 2 in less than 3 hours.

this game expects you to grind for 300.

thats not entitlement thats respecting your own time.

im old too you seem to forget that is was a select few games that did this in a sea of trash. you need to clean your rose colored glasses. games were not better back in the day. it was the same crap just not as pretty looking.

Yeah if you know how to play the game you can beat it in a few hours. Not your first playthrough though. Not by a longshot. Also we are not comparing these two games. I just used it as an example of good game design which modern day games have thrown in the garbage.

Were they really though? Or might it be an idealized version of what games used to be, being of an age that just allows for more wonder, unburdened by day to day life?

Blaming others for games not being like you used to love them will lead nowhere. It just creates more antagonism resulting in ever more division and people pushing even harder for what they think games should be. On both sides.

Do you truly believe that everyone criticizing PoE2 wants to make it into LE / D4? Have you tried these games yourself? Have you tried to find the fun these games can provide, without prejudgment?

I know my initial response was cynical, but this I say with honesty: Please rethink how you judge people you don't know. Don't assume everyone is out there to destroy something you like. Try to see them as people who also want to have fun, to have something they can like. Your view and theirs might diverge, but in the end, only the game developers can decide what the right direction is. Neither your pleas nor "their" pleas will change that.

One thing you can change though is how YOU react to those things. Hate and antagonism will not make you a happy gamer, probably ever.

There's common sense for AFK mobile games, there's common sense for modern ARPG games, there's common sense for RTS games and there's common sense for roguelike games. Heck, the RTS genre declined as DotA style games were more accessible for players who itched to have some tactical gameplay as there's too much complexity in an RTS game. Never mind how many RTS players were doing what many PoE 1 players do: follow a guide and a simple plan to avoid the complexity.
Well first off there is no hate involved. It's advocating for something I believe in.

And no it's not me just reminiscing about old games. I do a playthrough on the first 2 fallouts once every couple of years. I actively play the games I played as a kid. Games were just better before they started dumbing things down for the masses.

And yes I have played LE D4. Boring as hell. All these games are to these people are idle games. They need to be watching a youtube video on their second monitor while zooming through the map.

Dread it. Run from it. The vision arrives all the same.

Also before little Timmy comes in and says 'but poe2 has lost 80 - 90 percent of its playerbase'

Poe2 retention is quite good.

If you look at Monster hunter Wilds - A game that was wildly successful
- On launch it had 1.1 million people playing
- As of right now it only has 56k people playing on steam

Thats a huge drop in player count

Does that mean monster hunter wilds is a bad game?
- NO just means people have already played it and has moved on to other games
- People will come back when new content is out

This is so true. The funny thing is if you look at POE 1 in general. It barely broke 100k on most days with recent being 200k for a couple days. Yet, the people in the forum who love POE 1 never once state POE 1 is dead or dying with those numbers.
I don't really care about these metrics, let alone draw any conclusions from them.

The thing is - POE 2 was ass to play on this patch. It's propably the worst patch they ever released. Kalandra for POE1 was pretty bad too, but it was eventually patched to be quite fun (except MF culler meta, that was really bad throughout the whole league). This game is still early access and missing a big part of its core content so you can't really compare the two.

Last Epoch patch is good on the other hand. It improved the game in many ways and didn't brought any particularly controversial or bad system to the table. Response is overall good with 88% positive reviews in the last 30 days on Steam. The game is pretty easy until you get into very lategame content but that's fine.

It's good to have ARPG's that are different from each other.

I 100% agree. I want LE and POE 1 to have vibrant communities that love the game they play.

What I don't want is the people who thought POE 2 should be like POE 1 to turn it into POE 1. GGG made a clear decision, that was smart, to try to capture to different audiences. I for one really enjoyed my time with POE 1 but I won't be playing POE 1 as POE 2 is more my speed and has been 10,000x more times fun for me.

I hope GGG really gets it together and give the POE 1 people a new league every 3 months like promised so they can quiet down and the new POE 2 community can turn POE 2 into something better than it currently is. Which is hard cause its already fking rad
