Five Weeks into 0.2.0, POE2 is Down 93.2% Players All Time & 83.9% from Patch Launch

I recently got a good amount of real meaningful combat from both Elden Ring and Expedition 33, and let me tell ya, PoE 2 is much closer to brainless D2 clone than true and fair challenging gameplay.

Can't have a skill-based game with gamble-over-gamble built into most progression systems, they have no baseline to balance around.

No it's not... did you follow them for the last 5 years and watch all their interviews about the game?

This was supposed to be significantly harder/ more challenging than POE 1, SPECIFICALLY for POE 1 players... Their official stance before EA release was "we don't care about new players", they sang that in interviews for years until release.

This was meant to be the hardest ARPG on the planet, designed with POE 1 players in mind.

If this is supposed to target POE1 players I am nnot going to the range with these guys. They are so bad they would end up shooting me behind them.

Agree. Been playing No Rest For the Wicked and Expedition 33. Both those games make me not even want to go back to POE2. Meaningful combat that requires skill and they offer a challenge without XP penalty.

Bloated mob HP and neutered player damage doesn’t make the game Soulslike, and it certainly doesn’t make it difficult. Lords of the Fallen and The Surge already proved that point

We know, that's the kinda shit were talking about when us "POE 1 doomers" are saying POE 2 is a bad game with bad design decisions.

Many of us were excited and immediately let down with how insanely easy POE 2 was. It's still insanely easy... And you tourists who just started want it even easier (perhaps not you directly homie, but I see a LOT of whinging about how we don't just get free level 100, how it's too punishing, etc etc).

Believe it or not. No game ever punishes me for failing. I kinda like it. It makes me fail a lot less, and I don't want that taken away from me for a tourist who won't even be playing in a year.

I been here 7 years. I'm playing POE 1 and 2 until the sun dies. I'm not ever going anywhere -- none of you will be here in 6 more months.

I have a vested interest in the game not sucking.

lol, economics is a harsh mistress, who punishes those who disobey her.

That might have been their intention, it might have been their vision, but it doesn't really matter, because no one can sustain a money pit that nobody wants to play.

Speaking of harsh lessons, have we realized that "meaningful combat" doesn't work at scale in practice yet?



Now on that front we agree, it was their intention, or at least their claim, but it's not quite the reality we got.

Also I genuinely don't think GGG learns. I don't say that to be crude, i say that watching them for almost a decade make the same exact mistakes over, and over, and over...

And then literally reintroducing the same problems in POE 2, which were already hilariously FIXED in POE 1. unfixed just for POE 2...

Have you seen how many people quit? A large amount of POE 2 fans couldn't handle the FIRST balance patch... The game isn't even hard yet.

Now maybe GGG changes their vision -- but we're about halfway into the difficulty I expected.

Additionally, in POE 1 most "aspirational content" (Uber pinnacle bosses) takes minutes to complete, for all but the strongest builds with a MUCH higher level of investment than anything in POE 2 currently.

Once they make this game harder (unless they abandon ship) even more of the new fans will be disenfranchised.

POE 2 is the easy game. It's got a long way to go to become the hard game GGG said it would be.

Let's look at that another way, shall we?

Suppose GGG changed nothing about PoE Deuce for almost a year, going forward. How many players do you imagine would still be playing at the end of that time?

That's where we are with PoE. The fact that people (myself included) are still playing PoE (whether Settlers or Standard) at all after going on a year with no new content is pretty good. =^[.]^=
