Honestly, that shroud walker on abyssal monsters needs to be changed to just be like normal mobs shroud walker. Just had one in act 3, eat through almost 1700 ehp with 31% chaos res in 2 seconds flat. I could not even hit esc/respawn before it merced me. BUT I would need 5-10 seconds of combat to kill it with my PRIMARY skills (Yes, i was playing an off meta build, tempest flurry monk. TF is a fun skill, or would be if the game was balanced right). Math does not math on the damage numbers they gave these affixes. Especially when the affixes are ALREADY annoying ones like shroud walker.
I don't even know what damage type that shroud walker thing is supposed to be. i have all my elemental res capped, 71% chaos res, i have Catalysis and Melting Flames, over 20k armor, almost 3k hp, and it's still annoying to fight on warrior. wouldn't be surprised if it was bugged and had some wonky interaction causing it to deal way more dmg than supposed to.

All the things you're talking about are "take it or leave it" kind of stuff which can't be changed anymore imo.
Actually you can; let's kick Tencent out and replace CEO's of GGG? Impossible. Try to have some fun in beta and leave it when it transforms into PoE1 completely.

Im using a sorc ffs and bosses still die in less than 10 seconds.

Well this is why their vision is failing. It really seems like they want you to zooom zoom blast through maps and then somehow it switches to dark souls when fighting a boss. Those two cant coexist unless mob density and all the events are removed/redone. All of them are swarm zerg style events. Then all damage needs nerfed across the board or all health pools needs x10 to remove one shots all around if this is the vision they want.
When abyss rares are tankier and more deadly than bosses they screwed up scaling very badly if their goal is long dark souls style boss fights. But we cant have them in a game like this. The slow 1v1 combat even in maps will never work.

I supported what I was expecting. I didn't play poe 1. I wanted exactly what poe 2 was promising. I was expecting paced thoughtful combat with a myriad of viable build combinations. That idea of combat is utterly destroyed by the game design. The people who wanted that style can't play the endgame which is supposedly "The game" as quoted from the community. That is what they sold us newcomers.

The Combat of the Campaign wont attract people for long i think. The majority of people want to feel powerful and Blast enemies away.
A whole genre got created because of this concept. Ask Vampire Survivor. Vampire survivor is tbh. very similar to POE Endgame. Blasting enemies away.
I don't know many people who enjoy the slot machine 1 button screen clearing zoom zoom gameplay. It might be something that attracts people who played arpgs for so long that they forgot there are other ways to play games, but in general I don't believe the general public likes this kind of stuff
Well, you can just look at numbers. Stuff like Last Epoch people will play for a day and be done, even those who like the gameplay style you're claiming to be the favorite
It's a tiny niche that enjoys this type of experience, but because these games are so mindlessly easy they also attract non-ARPG players that just want to follow a guide and mash for a couple of hours a week. Like a mobile game. People that actually want to play a game have no interest in such play style.

Yeah, it's really sad.
The campaign boss encounters really showcase just how much fun this game can be when you actually get to do combat at the speed they designed it for. Then you go into zones and maps and get severely punished for playing at that same speed. So you have to build around surviving ridiculous amounts of mobs, which in turn ruins the boss fights and the feeling of combat.
I really hope they realize that if they want to keep those boss fights thrilling and engaging, they have to design mobs that match the playstyle you have in boss fights. The mobs have to be slow, visceral and methodical as well.
Like, that's why slow, meaningful combat works in a game like Dark Souls. It's not just the bosses that requires a careful, methodical approach, it's everything. You're not swarmed by 30 fast undead, and then go fight one slow boss. You're approached by 3-4 slow undead, and while they're not too dangerous, they will fuck you up if you mess up too much and time your attacks poorly. Not because they're really fast, or swarming you in huge numbers, but because they hit hard and require precise gameplay to avoid damage and other adverse effects. Sometimes you meet a handful of very fast enemies, and it's a hassle, but it's used very sparingly to avoid being annoying or incentivizing a completely different playstyle.
CORRECT. You can't say just make it "Fast 1 click blow up the screen" for mobs, and "Slow methodical" for bosses.
If you can move at the speed of light to mow down mobs, that speed of light movement, 2 screen wide aoe attacks, and 10 attacks/cast per second will still exist in the boss room. Your character doesn't just lose power in the presence of the boss.
You can't swarm the players with 1000 monsters and then turn around and say "ok when you enter the boss room you're going to get a methodical fight".
We need QUALITY monsters, and not QUANTITY of monsters.

Basically, as you say, the game has to be consistent. It has to work the same way the whole way through. It can't be one type of game some of the time, and another type of game at other times. Which it very much is right now. But hopefully 0.3 isn't the last massive overhaul we get during EA, I still have hope they'll overhaul the game to be consistent as well.
That's the reason for this thread. THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY in their design. So many of the support gems, skills with fixed times, nodes on the tree will never work in the current game. Yet they keep talking about combo gameplay. Poe 1 doesn't have combo gameplay and it never will.
If they choose the poe 1 way they legit have to redo so many gems, remove combos, and redo a bunch of the tree as well.

Maybe some people will find my comment rude, but here goes: the people that enjoy this type of "slot machine" like game play are basically working on "addict brain" mode. Their dopamine receptors are done fore, shot, defect, you name it. They will chase that one tiny moment of "bingo" when that divine drop sound hits. They're basically on autopilot; no thoughts, just chasing that dopamine hit.
The dopamine gameplay demands even more dopamine each time to reach the same high.
You've been here longer than I have. So you know how people got faster, and faster, and faster, and faster. With more loot dropping, and more loot dropping, and more loot dropping.
They kept demanding more and more, and GGG just kept going. Giving even more dopamine each time. GGG they tried to take it back but were met with backlash cause the audience they catered too only wants more and more and more. They want to go faster. They want to 1-shot even harder, and farm maps even faster.
That's how poe 1 got to it's current state.
